The UNESCO 2019 Forum on Education for Sustainable Development and Global Citizenship took place from
2 to 3 July 2019 and was followed by the 2019 GAP Partner Network meeting to be held from 4 to 5 July, at the Melia Hotel in Ha Noi, Viet Nam.
The events were organized by UNESCO, in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Training of Viet Nam and the Viet Nam National Commission for UNESCO, with additional support of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology of Japan (MEXT) through the UNESCO Japanese Funds-in-Trust for the Global Action Programme on Education for Sustainable Development and the Asia-Pacific Centre of Education for
International Understanding (APCEIU).
With the theme focused on “Learning and Teaching for Peaceful and Sustainable Societies…”, the Forum discussed how the three learning dimensions of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) and Global Citizenship Education (GCED) (cognitive, socio‐emotional and behavioural) are reflected
in education laws, policies and curricula at early childhood, primary and secondary education levels in different countries globally. As a partner on accelerating sustainable solutions at local level, UN-Habitat capacity development unit views these learning dimensions of ESD highly relevant to adult learning process and thus, they should be considered in an appropriate way during the planning, design and implementation of capacity building programmes and activities on sustainable development for all target groups.
