Urban areas are at the epicentre of the COVID-19 pandemic, accounting for an estimated 90 per cent of cases. The pandemic has led to the largest disruption of education ever.

Capacities of local governments should be strengthened to avoid disruptions to essential public services and to effectively steer sustainable development and build resilience.

The New Urban Agenda represents a shared vision for a better and more sustainable future, and helps governments and other relevant stakeholders to seize the opportunities offered by an urbanizing world.

With limited possibilities for training in-person, there is an opportunity to develop alternative ways to deliver capacity building on sustainable urbanization to local government officials and other stakeholders. Digital technologies can help to deliver training in which physical presence is not required.

The New Urban Agenda online crash course explains and illustrates the New Urban Agenda in an attractive and engaging format, and is accessible to anyone with an internet-connected device.

The course uses interactive lectures, explainer videos, infographics and quizzes to break down the New Urban Agenda paragraphs in an interactive, engaging and fun way.

The course is intended for anyone with an interest in sustainable urbanization, and is especially useful for mayors, local government officials, architects, urban planners, NGO workers and volunteers, and employees of international organizations.

The first part of the course – the core dimensions of the New Urban Agenda – is set to launch on Habitat Day 5 October. The second part of the course – means of implementation of the New Urban Agenda – will be released later this year.
