UN-Habitat Staff Retreat: The Future of Regional and Metropolitan Planning

26 – 28 February 2018 — The Capacity Development Unit moderated a staff retreat of the UN-Habitat Regional and Metropolitan and Planning Unit (RMPU), Urban Planning Design Branch (UPD), held on 26-28 February 2018 at Fairmont Mount Kenya Safari Club, Nanyuki, Kenya.

CDU led the three-day staff retreat consisting of a total of 9 sessions, which included individual presentations, interactive quizzes, group exercises, group work and plenary sessions. The objectives of the staff retreat were to enhance the unit’s understanding of its upcoming work and responsibilities related to the implementation of the work plan for 2018-19, enhance collaboration within the team, and to provide a space for reflection on oneself and the team’s accomplishments.

The evaluation at the retreat by its participants was overwhelmingly positive in terms of improved sense of teamwork and understanding of the work plan, expected accomplishments and responsibilities of other team members. A majority of the participants also agreed that following the staff retreat, they better identify with the unit’s core values and that the retreat will positively affect their work.
